Growing Golf
The Century Club’s Growing Golf program seeks to increase diversity in the game of golf from both a competitions and business perspective. Access to education and job readiness training are critical to creating and sustaining communities that are diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
In collaboration with our title sponsor, we utilize the Farmers Insurance Open and the multitude of opportunities that come with it, to help us promote equity in our communities.
Careers in Golf
To expose the variety of career opportunities that serve the business side of the game, the tournament partners with the City of San Diego and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GSCAA) to select two diverse candidates to participate in the Agronomy Program as a professional development opportunity and gain skills, experiences, and network within the course maintenance industry.
Additionally, the Century Club and Farmers partner with the First Green to host middle schoolers for a STEM-focused field trip using the golf course as the backdrop. The students witness science in action and learn from course superintendents as well as tournament staff and partners on their respective career journeys.
Diversity in the Game
To increase diversity among players, Farmers and the Century Club have hosted the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Invitational on Saturday and Sunday of Tournament Week since 2020. The Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour helps to remove the financial burden associated with the game and provide playing opportunities while ensuring players have access to the tools and support they need, allowing them to better focus on their career path and development in the game.
